In as much as it can be avoided, accidents in races are really inevitable. Indy 500 race that has been concluded this afternoon is not an exemption to those deadly crashes. The unfortunately racer who experienced it is Mike Conway. The 26-year-old Englishman’s No. 24 car flew up into the catch fence then fell back toward the track.
The incident happened during the last 3 laps of the race. when it is closing to 2.9 seconds when a half-lap behind the Nos. 37 and 24 cars of Ryan Hunter-Reay and Mike Conway touched wheels, sending Conway’s car airborne and slamming into the catch fence. Conway complained of an injury in his right leg following the wreck. He was immediately flown to Methodist Hospital for evaluation. Fortunately, he never lost consciousness and the injury was not considered life-threatening.
