Year 2007, Coach Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots had his biggest offseason signing with Adalius Thomas. Thomas has agreed for 5 year-$35 million contract. However, Patriots has now dropped him out. According to a report in ESPN, he then became the highest-priced free-agent acquisition in team history and turned out to be one of the biggest personnel missteps in Bill Belichick’s 11-year tenure.
As to his football career, when Thomas was still with the Ravens in 2003, he was selected to his first Pro Bowl and has registered 34 tackles, 8 passes defended, 4 sacks, and a forced fumble. Year 2005 he became NFL’s leader in non-offensive touchdowns of the season. From 2003 to 2006 he made two Pro Bowls.
His first two years with the Patriots is somewhat okay. Until 2009 came when he was one who were sent home for being late for a morning meeting on a snowy Wednesday morning prior to the Patriots’ Week 14 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. The next day, Thomas told the press that he called the team saying that he was stuck in traffic but was still sent home upon arriving. He also continued to question the perceived motivational aspect of the decision, saying “Motivation is for kindergartens. I’m not a kindergarten.”
Two months ago, Thomas had told Boston radio station 98.5 The Sports Hub in February that he wasn’t sure whether he would be released but said he wanted to play “somewhere where I’m wanted and where I’m going to have fun. That’s where I want to be.”
He stopped short of saying he felt unwanted in New England, but told 98.5: “I definitely didn’t have fun. It was definitely a frustrating year as far as that goes.”
For the side of the Patriots, Belichick told Boston sports radio station WEEI on Monday afternoon, “He was a good football player, he came in and had a heck of a year for us in ’07. Again, at this point in time, we felt like this was the direction we had to go on.”
