Frida Kahlo, a Mexican painter whose theme is “pain and passion” used colors with intense and vibrants.
At the age of six, Kahlo was diagnosed with polio in which her right leg was thinner than the left and also she suffered from spina bifida, a congenital disease that could have affected both spinal and leg development.
On September 17,1925, Kahlo met an accident which resulted to multiple injuries which resulted to series of operations mainly of her back, right leg and right foot.
To divert her attention away from her tragic accident, she focused herself on painting and more of her paintings were self-portraits. Including of her paintings were about her experiences, miscarriages, marriage. And according to her, she never painted dreams abut she painted her own reality.
The usage of vibrant colors on her painting was influenced by indigenous Mexican culture.
As a young artist, Kahlo seeked adviced to painter Diego Rivera, whose work she really admired. And later they had an intimate relationship and ended up as couple on 1929.
Kahlo was not really recognized as an artist but just as Rivera’s wife until 1980s when Neomexicanismo, an artistic movement in Mexico began and rtists such as Kahlo, Abraham Ángel, Ángel Zárraga, and others achieved fame.
