Freshway Foods’ Romaine Lettuce was announced to be recalled by the Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The said recall will affect 23 states including Alabama, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
FDA officials says that Freshway Products containing romaine lettuce was suspected to have E coli O415 contamination. The recall was issued after there were multiple outbreak reposts in the midwest.
Fresway Foods on a statement said that the recall only includes products containing romaine lettuce for food service outlets, wholesale and some in-store retail salad bars and othere. They also said that no other Freshway products was affected.
There are small outbreaks of E coli also reported in the states of Michigan, New York, and Ohio. Multiple reports of E. coli O145 in each state have been verified with 10 in Michigan, 2 in New York, and 7 in OH, as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Diarrhea with stomach pains are some symptoms of E coli O145 while in severe cases coupled witha weak immune system may cause kidney failure.
